Crystallization of Biological Macromolocules

There are so many publications about the different techniques used in the crystallization of biological macromolecules, that it is nearly impossible to get an overview over the whole subject. There is already a database installed which allows to search for different techniques and different substances:
Biological Macromolecule Crystallization Database

People who are new in this area and just want to get some introductory information are referred to the following publication:
A. McPherson: Current approaches to macromolecular crystallization,
Eur. J. Biochem. (1990) 189, 1-23.

An interesting comparison of "small molecule" and "large molecule" crystallization can be found in
F. Rosenberger: Inorganic and Protein Crystal Growth - Similarities and Differences,
J. Cryst. Growth (1986) 76, 618-636.

An introduction to protein crystallization in gels can be found in
J.M. Garcia-Ruiz, A. Moreno, F. Otalora, D. Rondon, C. Viedma and F. Zauscher: Teaching Protein Crystallization by the Gel Acupuncture Method
J. Chem. Educ. (1998) 75, 442-446.
